Predictable Theology Quiz Results

Posted by Chris Case | May 22, 2008.

Who would have thought… I took a theology quiz and scored equal on Evangelical Reformed and Emergent/Postmodern. Guess I should keep writing this blog :) .

What’s your theological worldview?
created with QuizFarm.com
You scored as Reformed Evangelical

You are a Reformed Evangelical. You take the Bible very seriously because it is God’s Word. You most likely hold to TULIP and are sceptical about the possibilities of universal atonement or resistible grace. The most important thing the Church can do is make sure people hear how they can go to heaven when they die.

What Are You Afraid To Say At Church?

Posted by Chris Case | May 20, 2008.

Anne Jackson recently posted a question “What is something you feel you can’t say in church, or around other Christians?” Its amazing to see the responses, which are at 133 and growing. Some are just dead on that a lot of us sometimes struggle with, like “I’d rather look like a good christian than put in the time and effort to actually be one,” or “Sometimes I wonder if this whole Christianity thing is a lie.” Then there’s always the odd ones like, “When I’m leading worship, I sometimes think of all 31 flavors of ice cream at Baskin Robbins.” Great question to ask, Anne. Thanks for the link, David.

Its really amazing to me the amount of stuff you can’t really talk about amongst Christians, particularly in the context of churches.  Its like a hospital where you can’t tell the doctor what’s actually wrong with you.  You’ve got some ear infection, but all you can say is, “I’m sick” and that’s it.  And don’t get me wrong, I’m not entirely throwing out church discipline, since there is a biblical presidence  for it, but when do we allow sinners to be sinners in need of a savior.

So, Reformergent readers, what is something you feel you can’t say in church?

On The Marta With Crazy Girl

Posted by Chris Case | May 20, 2008.

Tony Jones has On the Road with Trucker Frank… maybe he should do a series called On the Marta with Crazy Girl and travel alongside this girl featured below. This video shows a girl here in Atlanta lose it on our public transportation (Marta). Video does contain profanity, but its worth watchings, mostly for the attempts to translate some of what she is saying.

Makes me proud to be an Atlantan.

Fair Trade Circle

Posted by Chris Case | May 14, 2008.

With a constant desire to reflect social justice with the way I live my life, questions like who makes my clothes and who is profiting off the money I spend are definitely struggles.  Its easy to forget that often the clothes I buy were likely made through a process of oppression, like a recent songwriter put there there is, ” Slavery stitched into the fabric of my clothes.”  Well, Fair Trade coffee constantly comes up as part of that conversation.  The folks over at The Briefing’s blog wrote an article about Fair Trade, mostly criticizing the economic policies of fair trade, but the discussion that follows so far has been really interesting.

I have promoted Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee on the blog before, and I still wholeheartedly endorse them because they are not part of the economic cycle that Tony Payne discusses since it is simply a way of connecting smaller growers with the larger economy, not price fixing.  I encourage you to get involved in purchasing and supporting businesses like that.
