This week’s ministry highlight is focused on TOMS Shoes. For every pair of shoes purchased, TOMS donates a pair of shoes to a child in need. The name TOMS is derived from the slogan “Shoes for Tomorrow.”The company has already successfully donated 10,000 pairs of shoes to children of Argentina in October of 2006. The effort was called a “Shoe Drop,” and employees not only donated the shoes, but coordinated with locals to actually put the shoes on the feet of the receiving children.
Here’s a video of their 2006 “Shoe Drop”:
They are currently planning a “Shoe Drop” in Africa and there’s only about a week left before they leave. Your purchase this week will help put shoes on a child in Africa.
There is currently one style of shoes, available in a wide array colors and striped patterns. The shoes are of simple canvas construction, with a design that was inspired by a traditional Argentine shoe.

Wow, Chris, this is great. Thanks for passing along the info. It kind of reminds me of the “One Laptop Per Child” program where you can pay to give a laptop to a child and receive one in return as well (http://www.xogiving.org/). What’s next? Maybe McDonald’s will catch the vision, so when I buy my next supersize combo meal, I can pay more to have a matching meal donated to a kid in Africa or something! OK maybe we don’t want McDonald’s doing this, but what about other companies? Those of us who can afford it should have more options like this to spend our money compassionately.
